Total solar eclipse Morocco 2027

The Eclipse

Northern Morocco, at the gateway of the Strait of Gibraltar, lies directly within the path of totality for the August 2, 2027 solar eclipse.

For nearly five minutes, day will turn to twilight as the moon completely covers the sun — revealing the sun’s luminous corona in one of nature’s most extraordinary celestial events.

Northern Morocco is also considered one of the most favorable viewing regions along the eclipse path, with historically clear skies about 70–80% of the time in early August.

While weather can never be guaranteed, this region offers some of the strongest viewing potential anywhere along the path of totality.

A Journey Across Morocco

This is not a stay-in-one-place retreat.

It’s a guided journey across Morocco — traveling together through landscapes, cultures, and centuries of history.

We begin in Marrakech, where the energy of the medina, colorful markets, and historic architecture offer a vibrant introduction to the country.

From there we travel south through the Atlas Mountains, crossing dramatic mountain passes and ancient caravan routes before arriving in the valleys and kasbahs of southern Morocco.

The landscape gradually opens into the vastness of the Sahara Desert, where golden dunes stretch to the horizon and the desert sky reveals a kind of quiet that feels almost timeless.

As the journey continues north, we explore Fes, one of the most historic and culturally rich cities in the world, before arriving in the breathtaking blue mountain town of Chefchaouen.

Finally we reach the coast of Tangier, where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean.

And there — on August 2, 2027 — we gather together for something extraordinary.

A total solar eclipse.

For a few quiet minutes, the moon will pass between the earth and the sun.

The light will change.
The air will cool.
The world will grow still.

And we’ll be there together to witness it.

Along the way we’ll experience desert landscapes, ancient cities, markets, and cultural traditions that have shaped Morocco for centuries.

Camel rides across the dunes.
Evenings beneath desert stars.
Historic medinas and moments of discovery.

And this is only a glimpse.

As always with our adventures, there is much more in store — unexpected discoveries, local encounters, and experiences that reveal themselves along the way.

For now, consider this an invitation to begin dreaming.

This is already shaping up to be one of our most extraordinary adventures yet.

Seasonal Timing & Climate

This journey takes place during the height of summer in Morocco, timed intentionally to coincide with the August 2, 2027 total solar eclipse.

Summer temperatures in parts of inland Morocco can be quite warm, particularly in cities such as Marrakech and Fes and in desert regions. Our itinerary has been thoughtfully designed with this in mind, with travel pacing, early morning explorations, and restful afternoons when possible.

All transportation throughout the journey will be provided in private air-conditioned vehicles, and all accommodations — including boutique hotels, traditional riads, and our luxury desert camp — offer air-conditioned guest spaces for comfort.

As the journey moves north toward the mountains and the coast, temperatures become more moderate, especially in Chefchaouen and Tangier, where ocean breezes help create a more comfortable climate.

Guests are encouraged to pack lightweight, breathable clothing, sun protection, and comfortable walking shoes, and to stay well hydrated throughout the trip.

Activity Level

This journey includes walking through historic medinas, markets, and cultural sites, as well as a camel ride in the Sahara Desert.

Guests should be comfortable with moderate walking, hiking and occasional uneven terrain. The camel ride is optional, and alternative arrangements can be made if preferred.

Cancellation Policy

A $1,350 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your space. Final payment is due 90 days prior to the retreat start date. Payment plans are available through WeTravel under the terms outlined on the payment page.

Cancellations made more than 90 days before the retreat will receive a refund of payments made, minus the $1,350 non-refundable deposit.

While we truly wish we could accommodate unexpected situations such as illness, injury, family emergencies, or travel disruptions, these commitments make it impossible for us to offer refunds within the 90-day window.

Travel insurance and medical evacuation insurance are required for this journey to help protect you in the event that unforeseen circumstances arise.
